Here’s a list of party game ideas so you’re not caught short on keeping the kids amused!

  • Bean toss – score points as you throw!
  • Pin the Tail on the …..there are now many spins on the original “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” – these types of games now come in party themes such as Princess,Circus, Halloween, Jungle, Soccer and more!
  • Pass the parcel – you will need wrapping or newspaper, small novelties/gifts or confectionery, music. Wrap one gift in a layer of paper and repeat until you have several layers. Do enough layers for the number of guests. Sitting in a circle have the children pass the parcel while the music is playing and when the music stops the person holding the parcel removes one layer of wrapping. Repeat until the last layer of wrapping has been removed. Try and keep the treats interesting to keep the children interested!
  • Balloon Stomp – you will need balloons and an assortment of lollies. Insert wrapped lollies into balloons before they are inflated. Inflate balloons and place around the room. Then tell the kids to go around the room busting the balloons to collect their treats. Makes a good alternative to a piñata. Make sure you have some spare lollies on hand in case any of the kids miss out!
  • Egg & Spoon Race – you will need the appropriate number of spoons and eggs – if you’re going for the real thing eggs should be hard boiled, alternatively you could use golf balls or a pre packaged set of plastic eggs and spoons. Arrange the children in a line with their egg on the spoon and one arm behind their back. If the egg falls, that child is out of the race. Whoever crosses the finish line with their egg still balanced in their spoon and an arm behind their back, wins.
  • Limbo is an all time party favourite for kids of all ages and those who wish they still were!  There are many different types of limbo games available which vary in price – there is even an inflatable limbo game for those on a budget this one is ideal.
  • Musical chairs – easy to do and all you need is music and chairs! Setup your chairs in two rows, back to back (one chair less than the number of players). Turn on the music and have your guests walk or dance around the chairs. When the music stops the players race to sit in one of the chairs and the player left standing is taken out of the game. This is repeated until only one person remains – this person is the winner! If you don’t have adequate chairs you may have enough cushions so change the game to musical cushions!
  • Sack Race – if you’re looking for something to wear the kids out a bit why not have a few rounds of this race like an Olympics qualifier!  Don’t forget the prize medals for the winners!
  • Ring Toss – a game of skill!  Lots of different versions of this are available and remember – give the kids a couple of turns each to get them scoring points and giving them more than once chance at winning a prize.
  • Coin Throw – create a line of cups and a marker/line about 3 metres away from the cups. Guests line up at the marker and throw imitation coins with the aim of the coins landing in the cups. It can be played in several ways either against the clock or on points. For example, whoever manages to get the most coins into their cup in 1 minute wins. Alternatively, with a marker pen write the number of points on each coin and give each player the same coin values. Once all coins have been tossed, add up the total number of points for the coins that have landed in the cup and the person with the highest number of points wins.
