Star Spangled Cake

Americans and Australians share more than the colours red, blue and white. We’re old friends. And when you’re old friend has a birthday, or Independence Day, you celebrate with your mate.

Here is a beauty of a recipe for 4th July celebrations. A gorgeous confetti cake to make your mouth water and your taste buds happy!

What you’ll need…

  • Wilton sugar sheets (1 x red, 1 x blue, 1 x white)
  • Fringing scissors
  • Scissors
  • Smooth frosted cake
  • Sparklers (optional… but not really because Sparklers are always needed when a cake is around)

July 4 independence day cake diy recipe

How to…

1) Fringe about 3cm tall along one side of the white sugar sheet. Use the scissors to cut the fringe off the sheet at about 1.5cm lengths. Repeat until the whole sheet has been fringed and cut.

2) Repeat step 1 with the remaining colors of sugar sheet and mix all the colors of confetti together in a bowl.

3) Brush on a little warm water to give the confetti something to stick to. Sprinkle the confetti on the cake, placing small clusters on at a time. Press gently on the sides or even insert the confetti by the ends so it sticks out and gives the cake more texture.

4) Top with a few sparklers because when in Rome!
