Christmas-Cracker-Alternative-1

Have you ever tried to make Christmas crackers from scratch? I have. It’s a thankless task. You labor away, cutting pieces of coloured card, searching for non-lame Christmas jokes (impossible!) and finding tiny little gifts that will fit inside a toilet roll and not cost the earth. Then in under a minute, they’re pulled apart, the jokes are read and the teeny bottles of perfume are left behind for the more exciting presents.

There are so many pre- packed kits out there. They make it seem easy, but don’t fall into the trap!

Here’s a way to make a bespoke cracker alternative, without all the wasted effort and the cardboard waste in general. A scratchie will provide a bit of excitement, and I like to use a ‘some e-card’ print out that I think sums up a persons attitude around Christmas, there are plenty out there!

(‘some e-cards is a site that generates funny cards to send to people. You can make your own, or you can look through the lists of what people have made before. But be careful, they suck you in!)

Materials for one card: 6×6 inch card, scratchie, a ‘some e-card’ printable, double sided tape, a sticker, a small scattering of sequins, scissors.

Time: Approx 10 minutes per card.

Step 1: Fold two corners of the card into the middle point.

Step 2: Fold the bottom half upwards, stick a length of double sided tape on either side of the triangle and stick down.

Step 3: Fold the top half down in the same way, and fill your envelope.

Step 4: Put a sticker on the opening of the envelope and you’re good to go!
